Installing Aptoide TV on an Android TV box

Covers Nvidia Shield, Mi Box, Xiaomi TV boxes, and the dozens of generic Android TV sticks and boxes that all run the same underlying OS.

Method A (Downloader) is quicker. Method B (USB drive) is worth knowing if your box has no browser or app store installed yet.

Method A — Downloader app

Allow unknown app installs

Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps → select Downloader → toggle "Allow from this source."

Install Downloader from the Play Store

Search for it directly, or use your box's default app store.

Enter code 4277094

Open Downloader and type the code into the address bar, then select Go.

Install Aptoide TV

Confirm the install prompt, then open it from your home screen or app drawer.

Method B — USB drive (manual sideload)

Download the APK on a computer

Grab it from our download page and save it to a USB flash drive.

Plug the drive into your TV box

Most boxes have at least one full-size USB port.

Open a file manager app

If your box doesn't have one built in, install "File Manager" or similar from the Play Store first.

Browse to the USB drive and tap the APK

Select the Aptoide TV file to begin installation.

Allow the install if prompted

You may need to grant your file manager permission the first time.

Launch Aptoide TV

It'll appear in your apps list from now on, same as any other installed app.

Generic Android TV boxes vary a lot in their settings menu wording. If "Special app access" isn't where you expect it, search your Settings app for "unknown sources" or "install unknown apps."

Ready to install?

Grab the APK or the Downloader code shortcut.
